Tamiya Acrylic Paints are made from water-soluble acrylic resins and are excellent for either brush or spray-painting. These paints can be used on styrene resins, styrofoam, wood, plus all the common model plastics. The paint covers well, flows smoothly with no blushing or fading, and can be blended easily. It can be washed off of brushes easily using water before it dries.
The 'Mini' series offers a choice of glossy, matte and clear finishes, each in a conveniently sized 10ml bottle. X appointed colours have a glossy finish, while XF designated colours have a flat finish.

About Tamiya X/XF Series Water-soluble Acrylic Paints
Tamiya Mini Acrylic (X / XF) paints are high-quality water-soluble acrylic resins in convenient 10ml mini bottles. They offer excellent flow, coverage, and blending, making them ideal for both brush painting and airbrushing on plastic models.
Key features:
- X-Series: Glossy finish — perfect for bright colors, interiors, and polished effects
- XF-Series: Flat / Matte finish — ideal for realistic military, aircraft, and weathering applications
- Easy to thin with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic Thinner (or compatible acrylic thinners)
- Water cleanup while wet; safe for most common model plastics (styrene, ABS, etc.)
- Milder solvents compared to lacquers
These acrylics are the beginner-friendly, easier-cleanup counterpart to Tamiya’s tougher Mini LP Lacquer series (similar to Mr. Hobby H-series vs. C-series). Great for all types of scale modeling — mecha, aircraft, military vehicles, cars, figures, and more.
